Day 12: Secret of the Songshell

14 Days of Autism Love Giveaway
Ahhhhhh, love is in the air! Can you feel it?

My heart’s beating a little faster because we’re celebrating our love for those on the autism spectrum. Every day, for the next 14 days, I’m going to feature one of our favorite authors, apps, and organizations as a countdown to a huge giveaway of their products. (Now I can feel your heart beating faster too!) Have fun learning about them …and don’t forget to enter the giveaway. (Entry form at the end of this post. Lots of ways to earn extra entries too.)

Day 12: Secret of the Songshell

I’m Brian Tashima, an author and a musician. My son, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, asked me to write him a book several years ago, and Secret of the Songshell was the result.

My Motivation

With this book, I wanted to provide kids on the autism spectrum with a literary hero that they could relate to and gain a sense of coolness and empowerment from – a character that saved the day with his special qualities, not despite them.

The inspiration for my book’s protagonist came from my son, who can do things that seem almost like magic or superpowers to me! I believe that while autism comes with its share of challenges, it can also foster a greater sense of acceptance and appreciation for the unique talents and abilities that we all have.
