A Mother’s Day: Jodi Murphy

No flowers. No candy. No brunch. I’m not a fan of what I like to call the “Hallmark Card” days as they seem forced and insincere. But I do love being a mother and a wife. My family is essential to my well-being and I celebrate them every, single day. Some days are stand outs and a ‘dream’ mother’s day would start with a hike with my son, a chance to hear his latest thoughts and insights—I just adore his Asperger brain and point of view! Then we’d meet up with my husband and daughter for a homemade ‘American’ breakfast, meaning the full … [Read more...]

A Mother’s Day: Julie Brusio

Dream Mother’s Day: It happens every year, actually.  I get real honest-to-goodness “me” time.  I get a pedicure and massage.  This year I added in a bonus facial to the mix. My family all pitches in when I’m sick in bed.  My hubs does the job of both of us, which is no small feat at all.  I get hugs, kisses, and “I love yous” all the time.  Every now and then I get flowers too! The song that reminds me of being a mom is 'You’ve Got a Friend in Me' from Toy Story.  Both of my kids loved this movie and Toy Story 3 has a special place … [Read more...]

My dream Mother's Day? That's an easy one to tell you about, because I already lived it—the last day of our recent family holiday... We were staying on the North Cornwall Coast in England. It was a warm day in late spring, no clouds in the sky. We packed the beach essentials—sunscreen, blanket, windbreak, snacks, bucket and spade—and off we went. We were on the beach for 5 hours, just happy to be there with each other. There were no phone calls, no interruptions, no deadlines, no pressures. Hubs and I dug deep holes in the sand for the … [Read more...]

A Mother’s Day: Brooke Twine

I could go down the road of saying that my Dream Mother’s Day would be spending it with my lovely family but that would be somewhat of a lie. Yes, my family are lovely but my Dream Mother’s Day would be on my own, on the Orkney Islands of Scotland. I went there once with my mother on a holiday and I have thought about that place ever since.  Seals swimming about, otters visiting and all part of my heritage. I would love to get a small, stylishly decorated holiday house, overlooking the ocean and just read and play my Nintentdo DS in the … [Read more...]

A Mother’s Day: Sharon Cummings

My dream Mother's Day is a simple gathering of family. It does not matter where but it does mean the world to me who.  I want my children (Conner & Bonnie) and my grand children (Mahala, Dakota, Solana & Maverick).  I want my brothers and their families and my nieces and their families.  I want everyone to just talk which always leads to laughter.  I want my children and grand children to hear stories of how my brothers and I grew up-the amazing Parents who raised us.  I want to hear stories from my daughter and son-in law all about … [Read more...]

A Mother’s Day: Jessica Wade

My dream Mother’s Day would be somewhere with my family where I would have no worries that Micah could run off and get lost…somewhere we all could enjoy ourselves and relax as a family without a dirty diaper or room to clean. Pure relaxation. My family shows me they love me by allowing me to ramble, listening to me talk about randomness, and supporting me in my journey to health. I have a goal to lose weight and get healthy this year and part of that is through my running. I know this takes away from family time but I love that my family … [Read more...]

A Mother’s Day: Jennifer Marie Dirks

What would my ideal Mother’s Day be? Similar to my ideal birthday as Mother’s Day falls the closest weekend to by birthday, always. Let’s start with, I love my extended family but I would love to have a quiet Mother’s Day with my close little foursome. I’d call them and have a pleasant conversation, but just having that down time and no pressure to feel like everything has to be perfect. If they were there, I’d manage. I’d want the day to be quiet and peaceful. The sun would be shining with a nice gentle light breeze and around the … [Read more...]

Jessica Wade, MicahBoyGenius & MicahBoyGenius Foundation Michigan, USA Facebook Foundation Blog My son: I was in love with you before you were born, staring at photos of you when you were no larger than my hand. The day you were born brought such joy into my life and all that mattered to me was that your hopes and dreams might come true. I gave you to the Lord and declared that you would do great things with your life in His name. Autism hasn’t changed my any of these things. Autism has served to strengthen my resolve and … [Read more...]

Shayla Hearn, My Shaynanigans Oregon, USA Facebook Column Don't ever let anyone make you doubt yourself for being different. You are incredible just the way you are. I marvel at how you see the world around you. I believe in you. I accept and honor who you are. I will meet you where you are. But most importantly, never forget this: Wise beyond your years at four years old, you spoke the only truth you need to know - these are your words: 'Mommy, I am who I am and that is enough.'   … [Read more...]
