Shayla Hearn is our tour guide for autism happenings around the web. Seat belts fastened? We’re about to land on this month’s favorite places to go to find answers, some inspiration, a few funnies, and feel less alone.
Glass Half Full
I don’t even know where to begin here. First, she snagged me with her witty Facebook About section, warning me her topics may include toothpaste and poop. I so get this. Then, I hop over to her blog and WHAM! Her brilliant posts have artfully taken me on the emotional journey that is autism. If you are looking for someone who writes the words in your mind and heart, if you are looking for that mom who just gets it – then look no further. Glass Half Full is going to be your new favorite. And it doesn’t end with the words either. She clearly captures autism in pictures too. This mama is stalker-worthy.
The Real Housewives of Autism
Are you hard to offend? Do you have a brash, irreverent sense of humor? Do epic profanity-filled rants make you swoon? I have just the place for you. The Real Housewives of Autism is a group of autism mom bloggers dishing up post after post of in-your-face funny. If you are in need of letting go and bonding over the crazy you’ve got going on in your day, then these are your people.
For a Good Cause
Beards For Autism is an organization dedicated to growing beards and facial hair to raise autism awareness and support research. They are passionate about growing to show support. Don’t be shy – post a picture and show off all that fancy facial hair. All proceeds are donated to the Autism Society.
Over at “Rockin’ & Ridin’ for Autism“ their mission is to work diligently and with the utmost dedication for families that have children diagnosed with autism and other special needs. They are a non-profit charity. Donations go toward PECS supplies, daily living needs, education, sensory integration items, in-home ABA training, medical needs, holiday assistance and more. And they share a plethora of helpful information along the way. What makes my heart melt the most is seeing the smiles on the faces of the kids they have helped. Good stuff!
She had me at Neurotypical is overated….just sayin. And then sent shivers down my spine with Her name was Azalea…like the flower. Meet Bob’s mom. Have you ever met someone and you get to chatting, then half a day has gone by and you didn’t even notice? That’s what it’s like perusing her Facebook page and blog. Warm, inviting, and real. You want to be friends with this mom, I promise.
The aptly named Rockin Mom shares her life with her son Bug, her husband, and sweet snuggle puggle. She is an unapologetic Jill of all trades. In need of a meme? She’s got you covered because she put her hard earned Graphics Design degree to good use in this department. But you want to know why I really love her? Bug-isms. Her kiddo has humor in spades and you can read all of his gut-busting sayings on her website rockin mom’s world.
