My heart’s beating a little faster because we’re celebrating our love for those on the autism spectrum. Every day, for the next 14 days, I’m going to feature one of our favorite authors, apps, and organizations as a countdown to a huge giveaway of their products. (Now I can feel your heart beating faster too!) Have fun learning about them …and don’t forget to enter the giveaway. (Entry form at the end of this post. Lots of ways to earn extra entries too.)
We are a husband/wife team that is raising 3 children. One is an official Aspie and we theorize that another is too, but haven’t undergone the regime to find out because it will not matter to us. They challenge us everyday and make us better parents and people. Chewigem USA was created out of a need to help us find a sensory aid to assist our son with his constant need to chew in stressful situations. We were going through shirts, sheets, blankets, pencils, etc on a more than routine basis because of that need to chew. While looking for a product to soothe and aid him, we came across Chewigem.
Chewigem originated in Dundee, Scotland and now has expanded to distributors in the USA, UK and Australia. There used to be a commercial that said, ‘we liked it so much, we bought the company’ and that is what we did. We now have the USA rights and opened our doors officially in September of 2013. In that short amount of time we have attended Autism conferences and spoken to clinicians, educators and parents all over the country and have been applauded for finally have a discreet chew aid that is durable enough to serve children through adults with the need to chew. We pride ourselves on our diverse line and our service. Being parents ourselves, we know the importance of quick shipping and hand holding through the ordering process. Big things are headed to Chewigem in 2014 as we bring on new colors, designs and lines.
See above. We are parents first and always. We wanted to produce a product that would help other families in situations similar to ours. We know firsthand the embarrassment and taunting that can be experienced by a child wearing wet and chewed clothes. We love having a discreet product and one that has a line suitable for boys and girls of all ages. Our children are a big part of our business. They help pull orders for processing and print shipping labels. Our son does inventory and sales reporting for us on a monthly basis. Several months ago, I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking to Temple Grandin. She was very interested in Evan’s story and reiterated that he needed to work and stay busy and engaged. That was a thrill to hear her say that about my kiddo!
Every day is a new day with new experiences and challenges. It is the way we respond to the person that will ultimately shape how they respond to the world. It is up to you to make that choice. Making someone happy is more fun than the other choice!
