Exciting Changes for Zoom Autism Magazine!

From the very beginning, it was the founders’ mission to make Zoom a magazine for the autism community BY the autism community. It was important that the majority of our writers and contributors be autistic themselves. Our advisory board is made up of valued community leaders who have provided their autistic input, advice and direction.

Autistic voices do not just matter, they are imperative! (From Zoom Manifesto)

In 12 issues over 3 years, we focused on positive and realistic solutions, inspiring personal stories, and, most importantly, gave voice to autistic individuals and the family members who support them on their journeys.

Our mission will not only continue but expand.

Zoom Magazine is continuing as a quarterly digital magazine but now in a mobile-friendly, responsive blog format for even greater accessibility and reach. Instead of being standalone, Zoom is now a part of Geek Club Books—the nonprofit that uses innovative storytelling to end the stigma of autism, replacing fear with wonder, and awareness with acceptance.

In addition to quarterly editorial, Zoom will publish more timely news—conferences, featured books, advocacy updates—along with Geek Club Books robust autism community blog and our joint social media.

Autistic contributors will lead the way.

Both Zoom and Geek Club Books exist to empower autistic individuals and give them a platform for their own creative expression. With this next phase of Zoom, we are excited to announce:

  • Each issue will have an Autistic Guest Editor who will manage and oversee its production.
  • We will compensate all Autistic Guest Editors, Cover Story Writers, Feature Writers and Columnists for their work.
  • We welcome submissions from writers who do not identify as autistic on a volunteer basis.

We hope that you walk with us on our journey. While we prepare for the release of our next issue, please take a few moments to get to know more about:

Hi I would like to receive the zoom magazine. Our son was diagnosed with high functioning autism just last year and he is 14. I would love this type of magazine so I can understand him better and how he thinks and how we can be better parents for him!
