In this episode of ‘Tud’ Sense, Aspergian James Sullivan talks about his struggles with anxiety. He understands that autism and anxiety are common companions:
I have been on a bit of an anxiety trip as of late. And seeing as anxiety and autism are very closely related, that would make a lot of sense why I get the jitters more than other people.
He talks about the three things that helped him get through his latest bout:
- chamomile tea
- omega 3 acids
- Vitamin D through sunshine
James likes to share his tude views about movies, video games or books. In art two of this episode, he talks about Octodad: Dadliest Catch, a sequel to the splash hit Octodad.
What a weird game this is…the whole premise is for you to get through day-to-day activities without everybody else noticing that you’re a [cephalopod].

I am mom of 25 year old high functioning, singularly due to above average IQ, young adult son who has suffered terribly with anxiety and sensory issues. He used drugs at 16, significant drugs, and has been in and out of detox and hospitals since. He must get access to help. He is currently incarcerated for stealing and I am pleading for treatment finally for him. Any advice welcome. He is a good, handsome, wonderfully brilliant young man who is dying slowly and painfully.
Lisa, I am so sorry that your son is suffering. While we are not medical professionals or therapists and cannot give you any medical advice, we can offer a few suggestions that may help you help him. I will ask James, the author of this vlog, to comment separately but here are some resources where you might find professionals who can help him and online communities where your son can discover that he is not alone:
1) Anxiety and Depression in America is a wealth of knowledge including finding therapists.
2) For your son, The Autistic Self Advocacy Network, Aspergers Syndrome Awareness Facebook Page, and Wrong Planet are online communities where he might discover others going through similar issues.
3) He might also find a local group through an Autism Meetup
I hope some of these suggestions will assist you and your son. One other thing I can offer is to post your comment on our Facebook Page and get other suggestions from our autism community at large. Let me know.
Dear Lisa,
I am terribly sorry to hear about the situation that your son is in. I can offer no medical advice other than what Jodi has already offered. What I can suggest though is that your son have a positive role model in his life that can say “I know what that feels like.” I’ll go into this a little bit deeper in my next episode, but in the meantime I will definitely keep your son in my prayers. I hope he can find help soon.
Sincerely,
James
I look up to James Sullivan as a role modle because of his talent and how he handles his autism and anxiety. I enjoy watching his video reviews and watched his tube sense review.
As a mildly autistic artist I think Mr. Sullivan is triple terrific terrific terrific.
