Leaning In to Braver Choices
By Gretchen McIntire
I’m finding more and more that establishing a healthier routine is much harder than I had realized. This is going to be a bit of an uphill climb but, if you follow this column, you’ll know I never ever give up.
While I’ve been making some healthier choices in eating, doing so all the time hasn’t quite set in and working out three times a week doesn’t seem to always work either as my Dysautonomia and social anxiety can leave me so drained after work.
But the good news is that I’ve learned more about offering myself grace and also learning what does work to give myself some incentive to go to the gym and healthier alternative to the foods I crave. Who doesn’t love street tacos?
So I’m allowing myself some mistakes and also to see this as a learning experience because that’s exactly what it is. I’ve found a couple of churches to visit but haven’t had the energy or courage to go yet. But I will! I trust myself to. That’s part of the grace in my year’s theme.
This year, even after the TEDx talk, I’m still very drained and I’m realizing the importance of rest. I generally dislike lying in bed unless I’m asleep but finding new ways to calm myself without sleeping will be very helpful. I’m definitely interested in diving deeper in meditative practices to help regulate cortisol better.
