Paula Powers wrote me a letter saying:
Your story of Geek Club Books has inspired me to want to start my own company. I’ve been in the IT field for 13 years and have a plethora of knowledge regarding computer repair and support. I’d love to start my own company teaching young adults on the spectrum about this very subject…Thanks so much for sharing your story with the world and I hope that others will follow suit.
Well, Paula is one of those ‘others’ she hopes will take our lead and is on the path to creating employment opportunities for autistic adults. She has come up with a business model and wants to start teaching all that she knows about computers. Because she’s at the beginning of her ‘enterprising’ (ad)venture, I asked her to write a monthly journal so we can follow her progress to empower through TechPower!
I am single, full-time working mom of a 4 ½ year old son who is on the autism spectrum. I have been in the IT field for over a decade and would like to start my own company. I would like to teach young adults on the spectrum all about computer repair and support. There are so many out there on the spectrum that either can’t find work or don’t make nearly enough. I want to change that and make it possible for them to succeed in the business world. Thank you for following my journey.
