This Podcast Has Autism was created as a way to showcase individuals diagnosed on the autism spectrum, their successes and talents. Founders, Bran and Marci, want the public to know that autistics have dreams like everyone else. Individuals on the spectrum are just as talented as neurotypicals. Their podcast gives autistics a place to shine and help others by sharing their thoughts, feelings and talents. This Podcast Has Autism helps parents too with practical tips, love, support and friendship.
What inspired you to start This Podcast Has Autism?
BRAN: Marci came up with the idea of the podcast as a forum for sharing experiences and knowledge that people have gained over the years. What better way than with a podcast as a way for an open forum of thoughts and ideas.
Have you had any experience in radio or broadcasting, and if not, how did you even know where to begin?
MARCI: No, we don’t have any experience in radio or broadcasting but my husband went to school for music recording technology and while he was there, he ran the sound for live events and their TV station.
What are some of the milestones you have achieved so far?
BRAN: This Podcast Has Autism was also listed on the Top Autism Podcasts of 2018 on Player.fm which was a great honor. We were so touched by this recognition is because we’re still relatively new and only producing the podcast since the end of May 2018. We also established an affiliation with The Art of Autism. We’re proud that we’ve accomplished some awesome things so far.
What is the format for the show?
MARCI: When we first started our format was an interview followed by some announcements. Now, we have more structure to our show: We added a topic of discussion before each interview, sometimes we discuss our personal lives, and, finally, we include any announcements or giveaways at the end of an episode.
Do you have a proud moment you’d like to share?
BRAN: We are the proudest when we are able to give each guest a platform for sharing themselves by talking about their life experiences, talents and successes. We love interacting with different people and look forward to sharing many more stories.
What does your podcast mean to you and your guests?
MARCI: We feel so grateful to be able to make this a great experience for our guests. It means the world to us to hear so many different viewpoints and experiences. Every show we learn new things about autism. Doing the podcast also encouraged Bran to find out if he was on the autism spectrum. He was diagnosed in 2018.
Are there lessons you’ve learned or new ways of thinking you’ve gained from your guests?
BRAN: We evolve with our newfound knowledge and adapt as needed. We love getting feedback from our listeners because sometimes it’s the push we need to continue on. Learning about other people helps us understand ourselves even better.
What are you hoping will be the lasting impact of This Podcast Has Autism?
MARCI: We hope we can continue to provide This Podcast Has Autism for the community and be considered a valuable resource for people on the autism spectrum. We hope we can showcase the journeys, the talents and successes to show how everyone is truly unique. We also want to continue to touch peoples’ lives and make a positive impact
If our readers leave with only one message after reading this interview, what would you like it to be?
BRAN AND MARCI: Please share your stories, thoughts and feelings with others; it does make a difference.
If anyone on the autism spectrum would like to be interviewed for our show, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org so we can set up a time. We’d love to have you on our show.
