Remembering our bedtime ritual…
ME: “Night, night sleep tight…whatcha going to dream about?”
JMAN: “Marshmallow mountains, purple-people-eaters, cupcake hills, gumdrop trees, licorice lampposts, jelly bean rocks and oompa loompas.”
Sleep doesn’t come easy for my son. He’s as as nocturnal as a hedgehog or the western woolly lemur. So when he was little, we came up with our special good night script complete with Willy Wonka-esque references. I had to ask the question the same way every night and he would give his response in the same order (no deviations allowed). The words, the cadence, the ritual…helped his mind settle in for slumber.
I wonder what he does now for sweet dreams? I’ll have to ask, next time he stops by.
